Beach Cake

This one makes me smile. :) Made for an adorable little 1 year old baby girl. It took HOURS to create all the little details on this cake it was well worth it b/c it all came together perfectly. Made to match a Lilly Pulitzer beach party theme. So cute!!!!

The beach ball is her smash cake...

::21st Princess Birthday::

I almost forgot to post this.
It is a Princess themed 21st Birthday held for my stepsister on her birthday last month.
It was held at my Dad's house.
They wanted to do everything outside, because the yard is big enough to fit quite a few people in.
But, it was so cold that evening, that they decided to move everything indoors, so the dining room and formal sitting room was cleared out, and made place for 40 guests.

When i first walked in, i couldn't believe that all those tables and chairs could actually fit in there...
I was asked to do a dessert buffet and offcourse i jumped right to it.
As a thank you gift i made each guest a cupcake, then boxed it,  but somehow forgot to take a picture of it.
Go figure...

The pictures are a bit poor, due to it being held inside and it was almost dark outside...
so bare with me...
This is the dessert table.

Meringues

Princess sweets
These are the cutest sweets!

chocolate cookies
and malted chocolate balls

The alltime favourite, Oreo cake balls...

I made the banner and all the dessert tags.

How do you do this w/ two kids??

That's the question I always get..."How do you find the time to do all these cakes w/ two children!?!" My response is always, "I don't know!!!" (and I honestly don't know! lol) But somehow it all gets done...I'll admit there are definitely times when I'm icing a cake with a baby on my hip while the other little rascal is off coloring on the walls or hanging from the chandelier, but somehow it all gets done. That said, since summer has started (meaning no preschool for Bailey and Olivia has now decided to drop her morning nap) I find myself really thinking HOW am I going to get these cakes done without losing my sanity??

For the most part my caking schedule is 5:30am-7am before the girls wake up and then 8:30pm to as long as it takes... Needless to say after working on my cakes and chasing around 2 little ones in between, I'm a tired girl.

Luckily for me I've got B signed up for 2 weeks of vacation bible school in the month of June so I should be OK for this month, but July is crazy busy w/ 2 kids, beach trips, lake trips, MY 29th BIRTHDAY! and pool time. Sooooo, I have made the executive decision to pamper myself and...

TAKE THE MONTH OF JULY OFF!!! :)

I'll still be updating my blog w/ cakes (I have to make some cakes, I can't help myself), parties and other creative stuff so there will still be some action on here. But for the most part I'm going to be enjoying my birthday month with some freedom from caking! :)

So there is my announcement...
July I'm off
...returning full force to my cakes in August. :)

5th Grade Graduation......

What a year. What an amazing year. So many wonderful things have happened in this last year for all of us, but I have to say, one of my favorites has been 5th grade for Madison. My, my, how she has matured! Her body has grown... it's unbelievable to see the difference from the beginning to the end of the year. She's looking like a young lady now. But her mind has grown, too. She's not so impulsive, she's more social (maybe a little TOO social!), she's conscious of her friend's feelings, she's made friends with all different groups of people, she's made tremendous strides in school.... I guess I could go on and on. As much as I've always thought I'd dread seeing her grow older, I must say I was wrong..... it's been a wonderful experience. I think we're even more connected now and understand one another even better. I couldn't be more proud of her, and I can't believe I'm actually saying this, but I can't wait to watch her grow and mature and become the person she was always meant to be.

Madison came home from school a month or so ago with a big, bright smile on her face and said, "Mom, read this!!" It turned out to be a letter from her teacher telling us how Madison was chosen to be one of two 5th graders to write a commencement essay and deliver it at her 5th grade graduation. She was so excited, and I loved seeing that pride in her. I've always thought Madison was a pretty smart girl, but for various reasons, she went through a few years from 2nd to 3rd grade where she had some real doubts about herself and her abilities. Seeing the strides she has made in 4th and 5th grade, and now being chosen for speak at her commencement, well, it makes a momma really happy to see her believe in herself again. So thank you Mrs. Bennett and the other teachers who selected Madison and Jada. You'll never know how much it meant to her!

Madison with Casey before the ceremony. Poor thing, as soon as she saw me, she had this really awful look on her face, and she said, "Mom, I feel like I'm gonna throw up. I can't do this." But she did! She and Jada both did a great job, and when you look at this next picture, you'll see why she was so nervous!

There were more than 500 people in that room!
I told her (only afterward, of course) that I WOULD have thrown up!

Mr. Wilson with Senator Little and Representative Hubbard as they acknowledged him for his winning Teacher of the Year for the state of Alabama -- We're Sooooo Proud of him and sooooo lucky to have him at Ogletree!

There she goes..... my sweet, nervous big girl giving her commencement speech

And this is what her brother and sister were doing in the meantime! Yikes!

Madison with her friend, Hannah -- SOOOOOO glad to have that speech over and done!

her favorite teacher, Mrs. Bennett, looks on

A little celebratory cake for all that hard work

Maddie, Jada and Casey..... now it's on to 6th grade!

Maddie with me and Jonathan..... I am so proud of you, baby!

And not to be forgotten, Miss Macy.... Mommy's really proud of you, too. What a great year you both have had!

Where The Wild Things Are

This one is for Bailey's preschool end of the year program/party. I can't wait to see what they have planned for all us parents!! :) Her last day of school is Friday and I'm excited to have a fun summer. (but also a little nervous on how I'll get anything done, especially caking, with this little monster home with me all day/everyday) I guess my wake up time went from 5:30 to 4:30!! It will all work out!! :)

Happy Summer to everyone!

LET THE WILD summer RUMPUS START!!!!!!!!!!!!!

::Some more Dessert table mock ups::

Yesterday, after making the Hot Pink Zebra dessert table mock up,
I was feeling very inspired!
So I thought I would see what some more themes would look like.
::Click on the images to make them larger::

This a pink and white butterfly theme:

Next, yellow and pink theme.
I designed this one for my friend's twin girls who is turning 1 next month!
The theme is winnie the pooh,
so i thought yellow and pink will go well with our friend winnie!

Then there is this one... Pink and brown polka dots and bows.
I think this will go well with a baby shower.
Or a bridal shower!

Then i designed one more!
Now this one isn't so pretty.
My husband turns 30 next month and I wanted to do a dessert table for him!
I am stuck as to what the theme should be
at first i wanted to make it a nautical(ocean) theme.

But now I am leaning more towards autumn colours...
Something like autumn picnick in the park

Seeing as it is autumn in ::South Africa:: now.
And the leaves just looks so stunning in the different shades.

What do you think?

I am still deciding!

Oh and if you have a theme in mind and would like for me to design a mock up dessert table for {you},
please feel free to email me,
I would be happy to help!

Fairy Party for Heather's Little Girl....

Thought I'd share some pictures from a photo shoot I took of a sweet fairy party I've been working on for my new children's birthday party business called Shindig. I'll share more about it later, but for now I'm posting these layouts from a book I'm designing to show a little of what Shindig is all about.

I've also been putting together a new site at www.shindig.phanfare.com that I'll be showcasing all the different parties Shindig will offer. It has a wonderful slideshow of this party and I hope over the coming months to add another six or so parties, so check it out if you get a chance. I hope to get the business up and running and the parties started by the first of the year. I truly appreciate all the kind words and encouragement I've received so far and I can't wait to start.

Hope you enjoy! It makes me happy just to look at it. Oh to be seven again!
