Happy Mother's Day

We cooked Mother's Day lunch for my mom on Saturday before we left for Disney.
The kid's really enjoyed seeing her and showing her their new pond.
She even took them to Petco to buy fish for it. Thanks, Mom!

Happy Mother's Day Everyone!

Remember those days before you had kids when you knew exactly what kind of mother you would be? You'd watch your friends who had children and think, "I want to make cupcakes with them just like she does".... or "I won't ever lose my patience with them like that" ............. or "I would never let a baby cry himself to sleep." You knew you would read all the books, study the best ways to raise them and take all the advice from everyone so you too could be the perfect mom.

And then you actually have that first baby. Whooaaaa, how that changes everything. You just can't believe how much you love them from the very start. You can't believe how perfect they are, and you soon realize how imperfect you are. All the things you thought you would do suddenly change when the advice doesn't work and the sleepless nights make you feel more like a zombie, not a mommy.

They cry....... you cry. They scream......... you scream at your husband. All that preconceived perfection begins to disappear right before your very eyes. But then, something you do works.... you hold them tightly in your arms and the crying stops. Wow, you realize..... I can do this....... I am what this little baby needs.... she just needs me to love her and hold her tight. And somehow, no matter how old they get.... no matter what their latest struggle is, that's still all they really need.

There aren't a whole lot of pats on the back for mommies, but the rewards are enormous. What else could you ever do in your life that would mean more than raising a happy, thoughtful, well-adjusted child? We will all make our mistakes, but ultimately, if our children know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they are loved and cherished.... that we are always there to support them..... that we believe in them.... well, in the end, that's really all any of us need.

So to all of us mommies, Happy Mother's Day! May we all remember what an important job we are doing each and every day, and mostly, may we all be there for each other, supporting each other, and maybe even giving each other a few of those pats on the backs that we all deserve.
