Mayday Celebrations
I love May Day. It means summer is right around the corner (even if I woke this morning to snow on the ground). I have a darling neighbor who always doorbell dings us and leaves a little mayday surprise on our doorstep. I have always dreamed of having a maypole in my yard...and then I came across this Maypole Cake from Martha Stewart and I thought it was the most adorable thing I had seen!! I could totally do a maypole cake--much less daunting than a real Maypole set up in my yard. (For the complete recipe click on the link to her site.) However you spend your May Day...happy spring from us at Holiday Snob!
Teacher appreciation week
Em-il-li handmade for the instructions on this cute craft..
Anything but Perfect for this printable
I feel so horrible for not getting to my blog this week! It has been a CRAZY week. So I thought I would make it up to you guys by finding some seriously cute ideas for Teacher Appreciation week which is May 2-6! I usually don't share crafts on here but the clock from Emilie was just to adorable not to share! I hope to get that done for B's teacher! Have a wonderful Saturday!
Great Teacher Appreciation Gift Ideas
There is one thing for sure about starting your own business..... it creates a kind of warp speed in your life where things are passing by so quickly that it's almost too hard to believe. Case in point.... it's already the end of the school year! Didn't I just buy new backpacks and lunch boxes a couple of months ago? Right?
Nope, not right. It's here, SUMMER! Especially in Alabama! And the end of the year for my three kids always means a mad dash to find something wonderful to give to their teachers to show them how much we appreciate all that they do. Really... teachers have just about the most important jobs on earth..... training and teaching and molding our kids. So a sweet gift of appreciation is always appropriate this time of year. And I don't know about your kids, but mine are so excited to bring something special into the classroom for their teacher.
I thought I'd share a few cute ideas I've seen around the web.... some are super easy and some might require a bit more time, but all are do-able and adorable.
3 Four and Under makes amazing apple cookies using a cookie cutter that she found at Joann's Craft store. I love this twist on the apple for your teacher.
This one is pretty cute, too. Mini Oreo apples from The Crafting Chicks as seen on Skip To My Lou, one of my favorite websites.
Brooke from The Crafting Chicks uses mini Oreos, Airheads candy for the leaves, pretzels sticks, and red candy coating to make these adorable little treats, perfect for teacher gifts.
How Does She makes very useful gifts for teachers, personalized hand sanitizers. Teachers are always asking for this stuff by the bucketfuls!
Our Best Bites makes those super easy turtles using Rolos candies, pretzels and some nuts. These are one my personal favorite treats. So yummy!
And another version for your M&M loving teachers.

This is such a great idea for a gift display from the whole class. Family Fun shows us how to make a paper flower arrangement using the flowers as gift card holders. Love this!
Gift in a jar are always a hit. This one is a Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Quickbread from Sunset.
These fabric bookmarks are beautiful and functional and not too hard to make either. Just follow the tutorial from Little Birdies Secrets as seen on Skip To My Lou - not too hard at all.
I hope you are inspired to create something wonderful for your own kids' teachers.
They deserve the best.... who else can handle 25 kids all day long and
actually teach them something to! Kudos to teachers!

But we wanted frame-able art. (What is it about all us DIYers? We think if we can't have something JUST the way we want it, we'll do it ourselves!!!) So snobs, here's a free printable from us. Just let us know in a comment if you use it, and we'd love it if you added yourself as a follower! Thanks!

Digit Décor: How to Style a Party with Numbers
Sometimes in the midst of brainstorming centerpieces or party themes we forget about the simplicity and natural fun that numbers can bring to any special occasion. I love the idea of adding numeral party décor to announce a child’s age or the number of years a couple has been married. There are countless ways {ha ha get it? countless?} to incorporate the theme of digits into your event; from sweet edibles, to table numbers, to candles; whatever it may be there is a guarantee your guests will be impressed. Here are a few of my favorite examples!
DIY Number Candle by Olivet, Wooden Block Number Décor by Style Me Gorgeous, Number-themed Cupcakes and Ice Cubes by Martha Stewart, & DIY Hole Punched Tin Table Numbers by Project Wedding
I’d love to hear how you would incorporate
numbers into your celebration?

Fun teacher appreciation ideas for the snobby!!
So next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week and we definitely have some teachers that we love. So Dot and I decided we needed a little something snazzy to show our love. We have been in love with the balloon wreaths we have seen "floating" around....
a couple of our favs:
So with those little beauties as our inspiration we created the teacher appreciation balloon wreath. We thought it was fitting because...well we are in love with them...and balloons are eternally connected to kids, and they are bright and fun and don't you think it will look adorable on your favorite teacher's desk - maybe hung on a wreath stand or hanging on their wall? And most importantly it fit perfectly with our cheesy little saying "voted most POPular!"
How cute would it be to give those teachers the subway art and the wreath and bring them in lunch? I am thinking they will really be feeling the love?... Whatever your ambition level is this next week we hope we have given some inspiration and would love to hear your ideas!

A+ Teacher Take Out
Our next little treat for teach is a fancied up sonic drink carrier. We just used a little spray glue (love) and placed 2 napkins to cover the carrier. Then we made the little tag with scrapbook paper and of course we used our standby crepe paper for a rosette. Then we are going to fill it with lunch for our favorite teachers. But it could also be used as a cute holder for any fun little gifts you want to shower your teacher with. Good luck with appreciating those teachers!! What would we do without them. This little treasure can be found and downloaded free at eighteen 25. Those girls really do rule the school don't they!! |
Red Carpet Party!
I have such a wonderful story and party table to share with you today. My internet friend, Kate Petronis from And Everything Sweet is not only AMAZINGLY talented, but I've found she's quite a little angel, too.
Kate says, "While I was setting up the table I saws lots of fun stuff going up around me including a red carpet, photo booth, makeup artist, stereo systems and an awesome black and white balloon arch! It was one fabulous party!"
Absolutely it was!! Thanks so much, Kate, for allowing me to share Lily's story and your fabulous work! Be sure to check out Kate's post on her blog to find out more about Lily's story.
Kate lives close to a little girl named Lily whose become quite a local celebrity in their hometown. You see, Lily was diagosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma cancer in 2009 and has been in the fight of her life for the last couple of years. Although the cancer began with a large tumor in her abdomen, the doctors soon found the cancer had spread throughout Lily's body. But after long bouts of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, it seemed Lily had won the battle until recently when a small spot cancer was discovered. Lily is now undergoing treatment again.
When Lily's family called Kate to put together a last minute birthday cake for her 10th birthday, Kate jumped at the chance to help this sweet little girl. But according to Kate, "... such a special girl deserves more than just a cake. My goal was to knock Lily's socks off!!!"
And from the looks of these photos, I think she did just that!! Kate contacted me for a little help with the printables for the table, and I sent over some new designs I had been working on. The whole table came together amazingly fast -- Kate told me she felt like God was there helping her the whole way through. Did I tell you that she did this in just a couple of days???
The Royal Wedding: Princess for the Day
Do you have royal wedding fever? You are probably not alone. With all the hoopla surrounding the royal wedding I have often thought to myself {yes, this is a question that keeps me up at night} what wedding present is befitting for a future king and queen? What do you get a couple that seems to have everything? Thankfully my invitation was lost in the mail, so no need for me to truly fret over gift shopping for Wills and Kat. Of course, all of their guest can take a sigh of relief now because the couple has announced they have set up a charity-wedding list in lieu of a gift registry. However, I thought it would be fun to play princess for the day and share with you what my royal wedding registry would look like. I’m warning you I have indulged; after all I am the bride!

Bailey's Pool Party
Yesterday was Bailey's 5th birthday and we celebrated at Nana's pool with all her classmates. The kids had the day off of school (teacher workday) so it was a great day for a party!! Perfect weather, nice warm pool (thanks to mom's pool heater) and lots of fun in the sun!!! :)
I have to give a BIG THANK YOU to Mike Diaz (Cristian's dad) of TURN 2 PHOTOGRAPHY for taking these amazingly beautiful pictures! He has been studying photography and clearly has a natural talent for it. I was completely suprised this morning when I ran into him at school and he handed me a CD full of gorgeous pictures!!! I cannot thank him enough for such a wonderful gift. Now, I want a professional photographer at all my parties and I know who I'll be calling!!! His contact info can be found at the end of this post. :)
This is going to sound ridiculous but this is the first of Bailey's two parties. lol I have another party planned for this weekend with all her neighborhood girlfriends. Its going to be very girly, very pink and very fancy! ;) I chose to do two parties b/c I can't handle more than 12 children at one time (AND I'm not sure the boys would appreciate her pink frilly main party). lol
As a party favor each guest was sent home with a monogrammed towel.
We were well equiped with floats for all the kiddos! :) My Little Livie had a BLAST! She loved watching all the "Kaleys" swim and screech. "Kaley" is what she calls any child that is Bailey's size. Our neighbor's little girl is named Kaley so in Olivia's little mind there are two types of kids...there's Bailey and everyone else is Kaley. lol
I had a fishing game set up for the kids. Each fish had a number on the back (numbered 1-3) and whatever number they "caught" they picked a prize from the corresponding treasure box. Really fun game and was well recieved by the kids! :)
LUNCHTIME!!! We served octopus hotdogs, grapes, mac n cheese and chips. I was nervous the kids were going to be turned off by hotdogs that looked like octopus, but they LOVED it!
Another big hit was the "make your own sudae". Most kids chose all the toppings and their ice cream looked alittle something like this... lol
It was a really fun party for my little Bailey girl. Even though I was a little overwhelmed with the last minute planning I'm so happy we threw a celebration on her actual birthday. Lots and lots of fun!!!!
